Well, another draft weekend has come and gone, and the countdown to the 2009 season has begun. Everyone is now waiting to see if our beloved Eagles can make another playoff run, and maybe even participate in Super Bowl XLIV. It’s already a season of hope because unlike past seasons when fans were eager to criticize the Eagles draft selections, this year their picks this year have brought promise.
The problem the last few years is the Eagles would have traded their first round picks to pick lower in the draft. This time they actually picked two spots higher from 21st to 19th.
The main problem many fans, including myself, had with the team last year was they were all defense, but too inconsistent on offense. The main inconsistency was the wide receivers.
This year, Andy Reid and company seem to be taking heed by trying to solve the offensive problems. Their pick of Jeremy Maclin, in my opinion was the equivalent of the pick of Desean Jackson last season. Maclin, at 6’ 200 pounds, posted phenomenal numbers in his two years with the Missouri Tigers.
RB Lesean McCoy was picked up to split time and eventually replace Brian Westbrook. One of their main issues they had to address in the off-season was finding another running back that could take Correll Buckhalter’s place.
With the signing of Ellis Hobbs to the defense, and the major upgrades they made on offense, the 2009 season should be an exciting one, and I personally can’t wait. How long until the pre-season?
