NFL Week 17 2009

As I mentioned last week, this blog isn’t going to be one of my normal extensive previews to the games this weekend. Don’t worry, I’ll be back to my normal long-winded self next week, right in time for the playoffs.

Speaking of which, the AFC has set up for a very interesting finish to the season. There are seven teams that have a chance of locking up a playoff berth this weekend, but none of them look that good. Will whichever teams that get the wild card spots actually be able to compete with the other teams in the AFC? Probably not, but no matter which way you look at it, there are plenty of games to watch this week, none hyped up more than the epic Eagles-Cowboys showdown in Dallas. Both teams look good, and this game looks to be the highlight of the year. Who’ll come out on top? Here’s week 17.

PS- Anyone hoping for a longer season should pay close attention to how many starters are pulled this Sunday.

Indianapolis Colts @ Buffalo Bills
[Sunday 1:00]

The Colts are resting a multitude of starters, so the Bills will come out on top.
Buffalo Bills

New Orleans Saints @ Carolina Panthers
[Sunday 1:00]

The Saints are also resting their starters, and the Panthers have found a quarterback of the future with Matt Moore.
Carolina Panthers

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Cleveland Browns
[Sunday 1:00]

Even though they could have used it earlier in the season, the Browns defense will come up big against the playoff hopefuls.
Cleveland Browns

New England Patriots @ Houston Texans
[Sunday 1:00]

The Texans have everything to play for, and the Pats have nothing to play for.
Houston Texans

New York Giants @ Minnesota Vikings
[Sunday 1:00]

Neither team has impressed much as of late, but the Giants don’t have many pieces to play with.
Minnesota Vikings

San Francisco 49ers @ St. Louis Rams
[Sunday 1:00]

The Rams will clinch their top pick in the draft by losing.
San Francisco 49ers

Atlanta Falcons @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
[Sunday 1:00]

The Bucs beat a good team last week, and they’ll keep the ball rolling.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Pittsburgh Steelers @ Miami Dolphins
[Sunday 1:00]

The Dolphins haven’t proven they’re good enough to make it into the playoffs this year.
Pittsburgh Steelers

Chicago Bears @ Detroit Lions
[Sunday 1:00]

This isn’t the year for either of these teams, but the Bears had an impressive game last Monday.
Chicago Bears

Philadelphia Eagles @ Dallas Cowboys
[Sunday 4:15]

The Cowboys haven’t scored more than 24 points in December, while the Eagles haven’t scored less than 27.
Philadelphia Eagles

Kansas City Chiefs @ Denver Broncos
[Sunday 4:15]

Josh McDaniels’ move to bench his top wideout came at the worst time possible.
Kansas City Chiefs

Baltimore Ravens @ Oakland Raiders
[Sunday 4:15]

The Ravens will recover from their penalized ways and dominate again.
Baltimore Ravens

Tenessee Titans @ Seattle Seahawks
[Sunday 4:15]

The Seahawks will have to try their best to keep Chris Johnson under 2,000 yards.
Tennessee Titans

Washington Redskins @ San Diego Chargers
[Sunday 4:15]

The Chargers have a very talented starting lineup, but they aren’t going to play for very long.
Washington Redskins

Green Bay Packers @ Arizona Cardinals
[Sunday 4:15]

Not sure what to make of this game, except it might foreshadow a game to come.
Green Bay Packers

Cincinnati Bengals @ New York Jets
[Sunday 8:20]

The Jets will play their hearts out to make it past the fading Bengals.
New York Jets

Fantasy Football: The story of Team Nate Kaeding [3-10]

It’s been a very interesting and disappointing season for the honorable Team Nate Kaeding, but all good [and really bad in this case] things must come to an end. In my final game, I’ll be facing a 69-97 point deficit, though at this point, we’re just playing for laughs.

In my Yahoo! league, week 16 is the last week we play. I came in third in the league.
