Eagles Attend QB's Workout, Workout QB

Eagles At Bradford's Pro Day; Workout Fordham QB
By Lance Epstein

One of the potential suitors for Donovan McNabb is the St. Louis Rams, who might have been blown away on Monday by Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Sam Bradford's Pro Day. According to multiple scouts and experts, Bradford was very impressive and passed the test of showing his surgically repaired shoulder was not an issue (had season ending surgery this past season).

His showing at the Pro Day probably has solidified him as a Ram and the No. 1 overall pick. While the team has not confirmed him as the choice, they are expected to go in that direction. More importantly, it probably takes them out of the running for the McNabb sweepstakes.

However the real big news to report out of the Pro Day was that Eagles' offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg was there. Bradford is expected to go in the top five of the draft so it is odd that the Eagles are out scouting him. Although, the Eagles have talked to defensive tackle Gerald McCoy and scheduled a visit with safety Eric Berry (both are projected as top 10 picks).

While I do not think Mornhinweg or the Eagles believe they will get Bradford or even want him, it is still intriguing that the Eagles keep checking out top 10 players. To me it is beginning to look like the Eagles might be trading Mcnabb to stockpile picks in an effort to move up into the top 10 of the draft and get an impact player.

Eagles Check Out Skelton For a Second Time

According to Adam Caplan of Scout.com and Sirius NFL Radio, the Eagles have brought in Fordham quarterback John Skelton for a private workout.

A few weeks ago, I reported that the Eagles (Mornhinweg and quarterbacks coach James Urban) were one of a handful of teams that showed up at Skelton's Pro Day. The 6-5, 258-pound prospect is projected to go as high as the third round, but could fall as far as the sixth round.

Chris Steuber of scouts.com thinks that Skelton is a nice project for any team but he is going to need some time before being a polished product.

"Skelton is a solid developmental quarterback, but he shouldn't be drafted any higher than the fourth round," Steuber said. "He has great size and ability, but he's extremely raw. He has to work on his mechanics and footwork. But he does have a strong arm."

Espn.com is not high on the Fordam quarterback as they rank him the 16th-best quarterback in the entire draft. Although, Skleton was overlooked coming out of high school with Jevan Snead and Matt Stafford were in his recruiting class. Yet, he has performed admirably at Fordham as he has thrown for 9,928 yards and 69 touchdowns over his career.

Over the past couple of week, Skelton has seen his draft status rise due to his big arm and scouts believing he could be another Joe Flacco in the making.

Furthermore, do not overlook the fact that new Eagles GM Howie Roseman went to Fordham Law School and scouted him last season. While this does not mean he is a lock to be an Eagle, Roseman would have to feel pretty comfortable with a fellow Fordham guy who scored a 1350 on his SAT (when test was out of a possible 1600 points).
