Stacy Andrews Staying Put

Stacy Andrews Restructures Deal
By Lance Epstein

ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that the Eagles and offensive lineman Stacy Andrews have agreed on a restructuring of Andrew's contract.

On Schefter's twitter page, he tweeted "Eagles OL Stacy Andrews restructured his contract Monday, lowering his 2010 base salary from$2.95 million to $1.15 million. bonus also paid."

Furthermore, Geoff Mosher of Delaware online reiterated that Andrews still receives his $4.1 million roster bonus and he would indeed be an Eagle in 2010.

Early this offseason Andrews was confronted by Eagles management to restructure his six-year $38.9 million contract or be cut. Andrews, 6-foot-7, 340 pounds agreed to restructure his deal in order to be on the Eagles 2010 roster.

The Eagles hope that Andrews will be the stud right guard that they envisioned when signing him in free agency last off-season. Andy Reid and the Eagles signed Andrews even though he underwent surgery to fix a ACL torn in January of 2009.

While Andrews played sparingly in '09, he never crack the stating lineup because of his knee not being fully healed. On top of that he had to learn a new offensive system.

This is extremely good news for the Eagles because it allows Nick Cole to slide over to center. If Andrews did not restructure his contract, the Eagles would have a void at either center or guard due to starting center Jamal Jackson's torn ACL possibly keeping him out until mid-season.

Most Eagles fans have been harsh on Stacy Andrews for being paid a ton of money and not playing or fighting through the pain. However Stacy had a legitimate reason last year. Usually it takes players a year and a half to fully recover from a torn ACL. Andrews took the field only eight months after having surgery, so expecting him to be at 100 percent was ridiculous.

His first year can be considered a mulligan but the Eagles cannot afford to have him falter in year two. Even with Andrews back in the fold, the Eagles might look to pick up a guard early in the NFL Draft as insurance for Andrews.
