Linebacker Spoon Gone
By Lance Epstein
The shocker of the day comes as the Eagles are releasing linebacker Will Witherspoon this afternoon. This is a bit shocking because Witherspoon was the starting middle linebacker and could play the weak-side position as well.
The Eagles traded wide receiver Brandon Gibson and a fifth round pick in the 2010 draft for Spoon.
Ultimately this means that the Eagles must either be working on bringing another linebacker in. Or the front office must be working hard to resigning Akeem Jordan. Before Jordan went down with an injury for a couple of weeks this past season, he was playing at a Pro Bowl level and was their best player on defense.
New Eagles GM Howie Roseman says the move was made now so Witherspoon could find a new team now. Also, it shaves off another $5 million.
Sources within the Eagles organization say Reid and the Eagles were disappointed that his play dropped off dramatically at the end of the season.
** CSN Philly reporter Derrick Gunn is reporting that the Eagles are happy with their linebacking corps. Whether that is a smoke screen or not is unknown.
If they were happy with the linebackers, they should watch the cowboy playoff game. What are they freeing up money for because all the top names are signing. What are the eagles doing but going down fast. Will weatherspoon released next desean jackson will be released to free up money for no one.Eagle fans put up with alot of bull and disappointment.
