According to Adam Caplan of Scout.com and Philadelphiaeagles.com, the team has hired Daniel Jeremiah as a College Area Scout.
Over the past year, Jeremiah has been running a site called movethestick.com, which discusses college prospects and scouting of NFL teams. His site was such a hit that Jeremiah had over 19,000 twitter followers. However, since May 7, he has not updated his twitter account, which was an indication that he was joining the Eagles organization.
Before his transition to the internet, Jeremiah was a scout for both the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns.
With the Eagles, he is expected to replace the departed Jonathan Stigall, who left with Tom Heckert for Cleveland. This is rare that the "College Area Scout," is even made public, but Jeremiah has a large following and has even appeared on ESPN as a draft scout analyst.
On another note, Jeremiah predicted that either Kansas City safety Eric Berry or Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham would win the defensive rookie of the year.
Eagles Drop Punter
In a relatively small roster move, the Eagles decided to release punter Durant Brooks on Tuesday. Brooks was the recipient of the Ray Guy (top college punter) at Georgia Tech and was drafted by the Redskins in 2008.
Last season, Brooks entered training camp with the Green Bay Packers, but failed to win the starting punter position due to a lingering hip injury.
The Eagles signed the former Yellow Jacket earlier this offseason in hopes that he could compete with incumbent starer Sav Rocca. Prior to the post-draft mini-camp, the Eagles decided to pick up another punter in Ken Parrish, which unfortunately meant the end of Brooks tenure in Philly.
Parrish will enter this training camp just like last year, when he had to battle Rocca for the punter position and as the kick0ff specialist.
Either way, Parrish or Brooks will probably be beaten out by Rocca. Rocca owns the single-season franchise record for net punting, which he set each of the last two years.
Still many fans will be pulling for Parrish because his other job is a police officer in Pennsylvania. He should be the feel good story of the Eagles camp.
