Eagles Cut Five Players
By Lance Epstein
A day after the Eagles squeaked out a 20-17 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, they have begun to make some decisions on their roster as they cut down from the currently 80-man roster to the NFL’s mandatory 53-man roster.
On Saturday, the Eagles decided to part ways and cut five players in order to meet Tuesday's 4 p.m. deadline of 75 players. Those five players include Greg Isdaner, offensive tackle Zipp Duncan, wide receiver Jared Perry, safety Ryan Hamilton and linebacker Simoni Lawrence. None of the players released were expected to make the roster or even be part of the Eagles practice squad.
By releasing five guys, the Eagles roster currently sits at 75 players. That number will most likely be maintained until after the Eagles' fourth (and final) preseason game because the starters are not expected to play. With the starters on the sideline, the remaining players will get a ton of opportunities to make plays and secure a spot on the squad.
Additionally, the Eagles do not need to reduce their roster to the 53-man limit until next Saturday, which is two days after the final preseason game against the New York Jets.
For the players on the bubble, this could be a huge wake up call to them. The message is clear that they must step their games next week versus the Jets, otherwise they will be on the street looking for a job.
Why is there a picture of Donovan on this website? Obviously he plays for the Skins now.
ReplyDeleteI hope they don't cut o-line personnel. They need all the help they can get if they want to keep Kolb from getting injured!
ReplyDeletedrop the fxxkin picture of mcnabb, the way the team did !
ReplyDeleteI am a journalist on the site. i have asked the web site designer to update the photo. It should be done sometime in the near future.
ReplyDeleteWho cares if there is still a picture of McNabb. Did everyone forget that his play is one of the reasons we made it into the playoffs multiple years in a row and to one super bowl. There is also his stats are not the best is because with the exemtion of T.O. he never had a true wide out he could rely on.
